內皮抑素已被鑒定為18型膠原蛋白的C末端片段，膠原蛋白是最近發現的膠原蛋白樣蛋白家族的成員，稱為多重毒素家族。它特異性地抑制內皮細胞的增殖，盡管它不影響EOMA細胞的增殖。內皮抑素還有效抑制血管生成和腫瘤生長，并在內皮細胞粘附和細胞骨架組織中起重要作用。內皮抑素位于血管壁（彈性纖維）和基底膜。重組內緞素來源于十八型膠原蛋白的C末端部分。重組內皮抑素引起HUVEC和HMVE細胞的凋亡。
Endostatin has been identified as a C-terminal fragment of Collagen type 18, a recently identified member of a family of collagen-like proteins referred to as multiplexin family. It specifically inhibits proliferation of endothelial cells although it does not affect the proliferation of EOMA cells. Endostatin also potently inhibits angiogenesis and tumor growth and has an important role in endothelial cell adhesion and cytoskeletal organization. Endostatin localizes to vessel walls (elastic fibers) and basement membranes. Recombinant Endosatin is derived from C-terminal portion of type XVIII collagen. Recombinant Endostatin causes apoptosis of HUVEC and HMVE cells.
